The Vegan Campaign, also known as the Vegan-Antarean War, was a military conflict lasting from 1914 to 1915 and was the third conflict of the Centauran Wars. Following a costly victory in the Aquilan Campaign, Antares continued on its momentum, launching attacks along the Murus Plateau. The ensuing conflict would become the catalyst of numerous pro-war mutinies in Grusa, with many volunteering to join Vega. Although ultimately defeated, remnants of the army would continue alongside the now mobilized Grusan Army in the Grusan Campaign. It is to be the final campaign for Centaura.
Context[]
Vego-Grusan Animosity[]
After the break off of Vega from Grusa following the Grusan War of Succession in 1655, both states developed an enmity against each other for the following centuries. By the late 19th and early 20th century, preparations for a reunification war began. This surge in preparations caused Vega and Grusa to mobilize their armies quickly but ended up causing greater distrust towards each other as a result. Crucially, this prevented the formation of an alliance against Antares.
Ultimately, when Vega was invaded, many in Grusa ignored the traditional feuds and joined Vega in their war against Antares, despite the Grusan government's pleas against doing so. This animosity contributed to the late joining of the war by Grusa, by which time Vega had already been defeated.
Prelude[]
After the fall of Aquila, Antares decided to capitalize on their momentum, launching their campaign into the Dominion of Vega. This signaled to the rest of the world that Antares are attacking past old grudges.
Logistics of the Vegan Campaign[]
The Murus Plateau disallowed any movement of troops beyond its defenses. To circumvent this deadlock, Antares utilized its navy to flank through to the eastern coasts and make naval landings there. Supplies were transported via ship and beached on the coastline in order to support soldiers. The Antareans aimed to cut off the Plateau’s supply lines, pushing straight through the middle of Vega to separate Vegan forces into two. Shokk divisions would then flank the Plateau from the rear and capture the Vegan defenses, allowing for Antarean supplies to come through on land.

Assault on the Plateau[]
Historically, the Vegan region has been known for the Murus Plateau, a high rocky ridge extending across the Aquila-Vega border. Sometimes nicknamed El Muro, the plateau had been used by the ancient Grusan Empire to fend off any invaders approaching from Aquila. It still serves that purpose, however protecting the new Vegan country rather than the old unified Grusa. In the 1800s, stone fortifications were built all along the plateau, later reinforced with concrete and heavier weaponry in the 1900s to make it tougher and even more defensible.
In 1914 the Vegan Royal Army was the 3rd largest in Southern Centaura, behind Grusa and Antares. After the Antarean attack, general mobilization alongside a surge of Grusan volunteers raised its position to the 2nd largest in Centaura. However, Vega would still fall in the face of overwhelming Antarean might and planning.
Antares' initial attacks against Vega's Plateau Wall had ended disastrously, causing them to instead invade through the lesser defended coast.
Thwarting the El Muro[]
While Vegan forces had moved down to counter, Antarean Minor General Reyes was successful in splitting Vega forces in half. Shokk divisions successfully captured fortifications alongside the plateau, allowing for Antares supply lines to connect and armor to push the Vegans north.
Many Vegan forces retreated into Grusa to continue the fight alongside their brothers. The vast Árida, alongside a newly supplemented Grusan military proved a more difficult challenge for the AIA to tackle.
Aftermath of the Campaign[]
Although the campaign was relatively quick, the Vegan army was not entirely defeated and some remnants retreated to join Grusa in the Árida. The dissolution of the Dominion would also pave the way for the pro-unification activist Xavier Navarro to declare the successor state, Skorpii Grusii with Antarean support in 1917.
