Vega, officially the Dominion of Vega (Vego: Domínio de Vega) is an upcoming playable nation in Centaura.
Etymology
The official name for Vega is the Domínio de Vega (Librae: Dominion of Vega). The name Vega was adopted by the Queen Lucia Verde of Grusa to correspond her realm with Astranism.
The name arrived from a heroic battle where the Queen and her knights defeated the Grusan army, driving them back to the Árida desert. Having successfully protected the sovereignty of her state, and with witnesses praising the heroics of the queen, Lucia Verde was given the Astranist name Lyra by a priest, and in honor of the queen, her new state would be named Vega, Lyra's brightest star.
The name could be seen on the alternative government flag written as D ♦ V.

Formation
January 1655, the ruler of the Grusan Kingdom, King Salvador Verde, passes away, leaving behind no male heir, but only a daughter, Princess Lucia Verde. Though many supported the princess's claim to the throne, a large portion of dissenters in the Grusan capital lead by the king's cousin, Lord Fernan Flamenco, argued that a woman was unfit for the throne and that Flamenco should inherit it instead. Their claims divided the people of Grusa.
The princess, unwilling to bow down, retreated to the fertile lands of the south, establishing her own court and declaring herself queen at the city of Santa Mireia. Loyalists flocked to her banner, and she declared the city the capital of her new kingdom.
Flamenco, who had now declared himself King of Grusa, assembled an army and marched south to crush Verde. Spotted ahead of time by scouts, the Queen personally assembled an army of several thousand knights and set out to meet the army head on, as Santa Mireia was located in a geographically disadvantageous position, surrounded by hills.
In a heroic battle the Queen and her knights defeated the Grusan army, who were driven back to the Árida desert. Having successfully protected the sovereignty of her state, and with witnesses praising the heroics of the queen, Lucia Verde was given the Astranist name Lyra by a priest, and in honor of the queen, her new state would be named Vega, Lyra's brightest star.
Vega began developing its own culture and language in an attempt to separate themselves from Grusa even more. The success of this cultural separation is debatable.
Contemporary
Vega would launch in incursion from the Murus Plateau into Aquila, however, was defeated in the Triplum War.
By the 1900s, preparations for a war with Grusa began advancing and both Kingdoms began mobilizing.
In the wake of the fall of Aquila to the Antareans in 1914, the Vegans prepared for an Antarean invasion. Their suspicions were not incorrect, as the Antareans invaded Vega in the same year. However, their preparations failed to stop them from being overrun in 1915 due to a weak point in the eastern coastal regions that had no defensive barriers against the Antareans.
Geography
Located between the green forests of Aquila and the deserts of Grusa, the environment of Vega is known as a chaparral, a warm and dry but rather green landscape similar to those of California’s inner valley or the Italian countryside.
Vega borders Grusa to the northeast, Aquila to the west, and is in close proximity to Columba. The Murus Plateau in the southwest serves as a natural border between Vega and Aquila. The first transoceanic cable was also set up in Vega in 1885 and connected to the Orion Republic on the Hydran continent.
The main industries of Vega include the culinary industry and mining. Food had been an important part of Vegan culture (it is not a vegan lifestyle) since before their separation from Grusa; most pastries in South Centaura originated from Vega. As for the mining industry, plenty of minerals and ores were discovered at the edges of the Murus Plateau and the rocky northern border with Columba. Iron was the most abundant material, influencing the incorporation of metal elements into the Vegan Army, such as steel plates for infantry and thicker armor for their tanks in the years leading up to 1914.
Historically, the Vega region has been known for the Murus Plateau, a high rocky ridge extending across the Aquila-Vega border. Sometimes nicknamed El Muro, the plateau had been used by the ancient Grusan Empire to fend off any invaders approaching from Aquila. It still serves that purpose, however protecting the new Vegan country rather than the old unified Grusa. In the 1800s, stone fortifications were built all along the plateau, later reinforced with concrete and heavier weaponry in the 1900s.
Culture
Language
Uniquely, Vega, speaks three languages, listed below;
Vegans primarily speak the main dialect of Vego (the in-universe version of European Portuguese) Vego was derived from Grusi, both being romance languages developed from Librae and subsequently Old Librae, created as a spite to the Grusans, though it is ironically more or less similar to Grusi. Most Vegans can also speak Grusi due to the extreme similarity between the languages, though Vego is preferred by the majority due to nationalism and xenophobia. This is their most significant and well-known cultural difference from the Grusans. Vego also has a dialect known as Aridan Vego (Brazilian Portuguese), which is presumably more common in regions neighboring Grusa, though it is not a common one.
Additionally, as indicated in the language map[1] and short story "Anthill", Vegans can speak Librae, likely concentrated in the south near the Aquilan border. In the aforementioned story, it is stated that many Vegans are bilingual in Librae.[2] While rare, Vegans who only speak Librae do exist, and are often derogatorily referred to as a "Nico" (a shortened from of único), as demonstrated in the aforementioned story where the protagonist Mateus is one of those few Vegans.

While otherwise not unlike other Centauran armies in terms of organization and equipment, the Vegan Royal Army was distinguished by their heavy reliance on iron armor to varying degrees, with little to no iron armor for Regulares to almost fully-armored juggernauts for Peso-pesado soldiers.
Currency
Vega's National Currency is "Doura"
