Rifleman is a standard class in Centaura.

Description

The Rifleman class is the most common unit found in Centaura. Riflemen are equipped with their nation's respective rifle variant, along with a bayonet attached, and a trench club. The rifle that you spawn with can be changed if you own any one of the Theater Veteran badges or the kill badges. The Rifleman class is the default class and is automatically selected when first spawning into a map and after death in the respawn menu. It has no selection limit and does not require any points to spawn as.

Riflemen excel at mid to long-range combat, with their rifles providing near perfect accuracy. Their bayonet allows them to take out enemies just out of melee range, making them a versatile class to pick.

Strategy

  • In several situations, especially during the beginning of the match, you should find decent cover to protect yourself from other riflemen.
  • The bayonet charge, while giving the user a very brief speed boost, has poor turning control and immediately leaves the user unable to sprint (unless you kill an enemy). Avoid using it around corners or against enemies that can maneuver easily. Use it as it was intended: quickly kill an enemy in a linear direction.
    • That said, if the distance between you and your destination can be reached, use it with discretion.
  • Rifles are able to instantly kill enemies with a headshot or two bodyshots at range, and are hitscan, meaning that the bullet will hit the target instantly. If you have decent aim, then sniping can be devastating to enemy pushes while you remain in a concealed position. This is most powerful on linear maps such as Roland's Prairie or the barn on Mons Planus.

Trivia

  • Rifles designs were modern, in Alpha versions.
  • Before version 1.1.3, rifles did not have a bayonet.
  • The bayonet charge screams are taken directly from Battlefield 1. A video of these screams can be heard here.
    • The time stamps are 0:02, 0:20, 0:40, 1:01, 1:20, 1:36, and 3:53 for convenience.
