Lacerta, officially the Kingdom of Lacerta, is a non-playable nation in Centaura.
History
The Kingdom of Lacerta is an island country south of Antares in the Southern Ocean. Like Musca, Lacerta is disconnected from the rest of the world and is by far the most underdeveloped country on Forma, using decades-old technology in their military and industry. The country has enough resources to sustain itself and its population but is often viewed by the rest of the world as a joke.
Conquest of Lacerta
The island of Lacerta would be invaded and annexed by Antares in 1920 during the Columban campaign, with its government and military falling in a few weeks due to its severely outdated technology. After capitulation, Lacerta would be repurposed as a testing ground for Antarean weaponry and prototypes.
Lacertan civilians were put under martial law and no person was allowed to leave their town, with fences and walls constructed around population centers in order to enforce it. As a result, the living conditions worsened as Antareans limited the supply food to the population.
By 1921, a new program would be created by the Antareans. Its purpose was the creation and testing of chemical and biological weapons and warfare to be used in the Columban campaign. The test subjects were Lacertan civilians.
KF Gas
One of the deadliest chemical compounds used in the Columban campaign, Kompound F or KF gas, was created and tested in Lacerta in 1928. Antareans were not comfortable handling KF gas themselves, as many guards feared it more than an accidental ammunition detonation, since at least the latter would be an instantaneous death.
Several Lacertan towns were subjected to gassing by the Antareans. None survived. Observations after the tests saw the inhabitants in a horrendous state. Corpses had their skin chemically burned, muscles curled up and shrunk, and bubbles of what allegedly was KF gas has appeared under the flesh.
Heraldry
Although not confirm, Classic hints that Lacerta's emblem and flag would be based on a depiction of a Lacerta
, a genus of lizards, in heraldry.
Trivia
- Lacerta is often joked as being so outdated that their army uses muskets. In reality, although they are comparatively antiquated, the Lacertan army is said to use bolt action and lever action rifles by HandsNDeck.
