Timeline[]

Antiquity (-0 BC)[]

  • Libran Empire and Rodinese Mandate established themselves as dominant in the South and North respectively.
  • Libran conquest of Riaa results in the destruction of their culture, although they still successfully manage to resist.
  • Libran conquest of the Rodinese Mandate result in the destruction of their last major rival, allowing the Libran Empire to reign dominant on Forma
  • Libra begins to assimilate their newly conquered lands, destroying their cultures and replacing it with their own.
  • Conquest of Musca by Libra
    • Due to their distance from the Libran homeland and deep-rooted tradition, Muscan culture and religion, Unism, survive.
  • The Libran Empire begins to crumble as their empire grows too large to manage. By 0 BC, the entire empire had collapsed.
  • Musca would be the first to secede, followed by numerous successor states dotted across Forma. The final remnants of the empire would retreat to Libra proper and eventually reform into the Libran Federation, isolated from other nations for most of its existence.

Post-Antiquity (1 AD - 1700 AD)[]

  • 13th Century (1200s)
    • Tucana becomes independent in 1200.
    • Modern Ursa is founded by the House of Polaris as an empire.
    • Antares is formed after the unification of Scorpius, Ara, Norma and Lupus by the House of Tau.
  • 15th Century (1400s)
    • King Alnilam from the nock peninsula establishes the Orion Kingdom under the regnal name of Orion in 1489.
  • 17th Century (1600s)
    • The Grusan Empire, a massive empire that conquered much of the eastern coast of Centaura, collapses after a succession crisis.
      • Grusan War of Succession begins, the more senior branch commanding Grusa fights the cadet branch of Vega. (1655-1685)
      • Riaa invades Tucana.
      • Vega would break off from Grusa, led by a rival royal family.
    • The House of Khorin would begin the unification of Corvus under a confederacy.

Modern (1700 AD - )[]

  • 18th Century (1700s)
    • After many conflicts with the Circinian Empire, Orion forces defeat them after a siege of their capital, annexing all territories north of the Bowstring Isthmus in 1715.
    • Orion begins their campaigns to dominate the rest of Hydra.
    • After several skirmishes between the expanding Cetan Empire and Aquilan Kingdom, both sign the Persean Treaty, establishing a final, agreed border between the two nations.
    • Aquilan War of Expansion:
      • Vegan forces begin their incursion, followed by Antares.
      • Vegan troops would be defeated decisively, forcing them to retreat into the Murus Plateau.
      • Aquila defeats Antares, gaining new territories that provides them with access to the Libran Ocean.
      • Aquila would shift its focus on defense in order to consolidate their new gains.
  • 19th Century (1800s)
    • 1823 - The Kingdom of Centauri is proclaimed after a liberal revolution.
    • 1823 - Orionite expansion across the Hydran continent would encounter the Geminan Kingdom. The Geminans were ferocious foes to the Orionites. In the end, both sides signed a treaty.
    • 1827 - Photography is invented.
    • 1830 - Orion would begin its reformation from a Kingdom to a Republic, drafting and establishing several new districts to manage its vast territories.
    • 1837 - The collapse of the Geminan Kingdom sowed disorder in the region, allowing Orion to annex it and to establish it as a new district in the newly formed Orion Republic.
    • Ursan-Orion War
      • 1842 - The Ursan Army lands on Hydra, equipped with superior technology to the Orion Army.
      • 1850s - Ursan forces march throughout the Canis peninsula and northern Hydra. Orionite forces fought back however, eventually securing the district of Circinia, though losing much of Gemina in the process.
      • 1855 - The House of Vistok is replaced with the House of Magor; the Ursan Empire becomes the Ursan Federation.
      • 1860s - After years of war and stalemate, Orion signs a treaty with the Ursans, allowing Ursa to establish the colonies of Hydrus, Canis and Lepus.
    • 1846 - Columban inventor, Ralph, invents the telegraph.
    • 1853 - Pistris Plains War. Cetus and Antares fight a land war. Cetus emerged victorious in 1855 and seized the southern Andromeda Islands.
    • 1868 - Battle of the Cabo Vesca. The Battle of Cabo Vesca was fought between Grusa and Centauri during the Strait War of 1864. With a total gridlock on the Strait Front, Grusa seeks to open a new front with a naval invasion of western Centauri. To do this, they have made an advance on the city of Cabo Vesca, to serve as a staging ground for this invasion. It was the first naval battle to be fought entirely among ironclads - in a time where cannons were just barely powerful enough to pierce through their armor. Both sides are all in - Grusa and Centauri are both sending in most of their entire stockpile of ironclads. One thing is clear: this battle will decide the war. Ships are slow, range is poor, and ricochets are many.
    • 1875 - Establishment of the first ironclads.
    • 1879 - The naval torpedo is invented.
    • 1875 - The Aquilan Revolution: This was a mostly peaceful revolution that established a "crown republic" system in Aquila.
    • 1875 - Aquilan-Antarean War: Antares, believing Aquila to be weakened after the revolution, invades Aquila but is defeated by them. After their victory, the Aquilan Army gains the nickname of the "Iron Army". Notably, Kalvin Tau, future Emperor of Antares fought in this war, and was motivated to start his conquest of Centaura after experiencing the horrors of the war and wanting to prevent it.
    • 1878 - Ralph's disciple invents the telephone.
    • 1880s - Kalvin Tau is anointed as the Emperor of Antares.
    • 1880 - Cetus commissions the first "steelpot" warship, CIS Diphda. It is the first ship to feature guns in turrets along with steel hull armor. The distinct cylindrical turret design earned it the nickname “steelpot”, with the protruding gun barrel resembling a pot handle.
    • 1880 - Streamline shells are invented.
    • 1881 - The Orion government purchases land from Auriga, expanding the country’s territory southward.
    • 1882 - Corvus' industrial revolution reaches a zenith, with 80% of the country relying on electricity.
    • 1883 - Oil and coal production begins in the deserts of Ursan-occupied Canis.
    • 1885 - The first transoceanic telephone cable is laid, stretching from the Orion coast to Vega. This cable would later expand towards the other Centauran countries
    • 1886 - Cetan Annexation of Southern Corvus
      • Cetus invades Southern Corvus in a surprise offensive.
      • Corvus is reluctant to react to the surprise invasion, out of fear of Cetan reprisal.
      • Cetus annexes the southern region of Corvus, sparking turmoil between the two countries. Corvus needs its southern regions for mineral deposits and iron mines, but the area was taken by force by the Cetans.
      • Massive economic depression begins for Corvus.
    • 1886 - Bolt-action rifles are invented.
    • Riaan Civil War:
      • 1888 - The Riaan Nationalist parties begin to revolt against the Imperialist government. The Nationalists quickly gain support from the Tucanese, who help push out Imperialist forces.
      • 1892 - The Nationalists successfully take most of Riaa, apart from the western territories. The Imperialists begin to flee towards the Vulpan islands.
      • 1895 - The Nationalists have complete control of Riaa. The country of Vulpa is established by the Imperialists.
    • 1890 - Mineworkers in Hydrus begin to rebel against their Ursan occupiers. The Ursans are overpowered by the miners, who had been given explosives and heavy equipment for their operations.
    • 1891 - Invention of motion pictures.
    • 1892 - The Federation of Libra contacts the governments of every country, much to the world’s surprise. It is planned for an international neutral zone to be established on one of the Libran islands to accompany the Libran's sudden communication.
    • 1893 - The colony of Lepus begins to resist Ursan rule.
    • 1896 - The Libratum International Zone (LIZ) is established.
      • The LIZ is intended to be used as a stopping point for shipping routes and a location for international councils to convene.
    • 1899 - Hydrus successfully gains independence from Ursa. The Ursan forces had been spread too thin and could not defend against the uprising that occurred.
  • 20th Century (1900s)
    • 1901 - Hydra Minor gains independence from Ursa. Both Hydrus and Hydra Minor had been weakly controlled by Ursa, as they were the furthest territories from the Ursan mainland.
    • 1901 - Canis is the last colony to begin rising against the Ursans.
    • 1902 - DRAGON COMPACT: After negotiating with the Orion Republic, the newly-freed Hydrus and Hydra Minor create an alliance (“Dragon Compact”) to liberate Canis. Orion lends aid as they seek the resources that Ursa had previously stolen. Ursa responds with a formal declaration of war against the compact.
    • 1902-1905 - GREASE WARS: War begins in Canis between Ursan forces and Dragon Compact forces, with Canisian rebels participating.
      • 1902 - Hydrusite and Hydran forces land in northeast Canis, while Orion begins to creep up the Bowstring Isthmus.
      • 1903 - Hydrus/Hydra successfully take control of the northeast Canis coasts. Orion marches through the southern Canis deserts.
      • 1903 - Ursan battleships sail into the Serpent’s Channel, cutting off Hydrus/Hydra landing forces from the Hydrusite mainland.
      • 1904 - As the Orion army gains more land northward, Ursan troops begin to retreat to the northwestern coasts, setting oil pumps ablaze and laying landmines. The smoke from the oil wells can be seen from Orion cities bordering Canis. The oil fires would not be extinguished until 1906. After the war, the fires were declared the worst ecological disaster in history.
      • 1905 - Ursan troopships dock at the port of Alcor to evacuate ground soldiers. Meanwhile, an Orion battleship group fights the Ursan battleships in the Serpent’s Channel.
      • 1905 - Aircraft are used in combat for the first time. Ursan light bombers attack the Orion battleship group, sinking two ships by the end. The Orionites had no form of anti-aircraft weaponry equipped on their ships, so they relied on evasive maneuvers to dodge the aircrafts’ bombs.
      • 1905 - All surviving Ursan soldiers board the evacuation troopships. On their way back to the Ursan mainland, they spot the Orion battleship group blockading their route. The Orionites do not open fire on the troopships. A personal account from an Ursan captain describes the encounter:
      • 1905 - END OF THE GREASE WARS: After the Ursan retreat, Canis becomes an independent nation, though they now had to confront the oil fires. With assistance from the Dragon Compact, the oil fires are extinguished in a year (firefighting equipment was not very advanced during this time period).
    • 1906 - The Hydrus Commonwealth is founded, with the country’s capital being located on the eastern Canis coasts.
    • 1908 - Birth of Kaden Tau.
    • 1908 - SOUTHERN CORVUS WAR (START OF EVENTS OF CENTAURA): As resources deplete in Corvus, the Corvun army is ordered to take back the southern region, annexed by Cetus two decades before. Taking the enemy by surprise, Corvus forces are able to regain the borderlands. Trenches are promptly set up by both sides.
    • 1909 - The first tanks are made and deployed by the Cetans, which held multiple machine guns with no explosive armaments. Cetan tanks are promptly countered by Corvus’s own versions of a tank. Stalemate.
    • 1910 - The Southern Corvus War continues, with both sides making small gains of land. Both countries begin to produce aircraft, which play a major role. Corvus produces airships for military use, using them as a sort of “mothership” for aircraft. The Inanis Ocean is dominated by the Cetans.
    • 1911 - CENTAURAN WAR: The Antares Imperium begins their conquest of Centaura. Corvus sends a telegram to Antares agreeing to be subjugated. Antares sieges from the south of Cetus, successfully taking the southern half of the country within weeks, as most of the Cetan army was focused in the north.
    • 1911 - The first commercial flight takes off from Ursa to Riaa.
    • 1912 - CENTAURAN WAR: Cetus is overrun by Antares and Corvus forces.
    • 1912 - Corvus is annexed by Antares.
    • 1912 - News about the fall of Cetus spreads throughout the entire continent, also reaching the Hydran continent. The Orion Republic disregards the news. Cetan refugees escape to Aquila and Columba. Aquila readies their forces on the western border in preparation for an Antarean attack.
    • 1912 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antares attacks Aquila from the west and south.
    • 1912 - The Orion Republic and Hydrus Commonwealth agree to a lend-lease program. Orion wishes to assist Hydrus in rebuilding its country.
    • 1913 - Further developments of transoceanic telegraph and telephone lines open more communication between Centaura and Hydra.
    • 1914 - CENTAURAN WAR (CURENT END OF EVENTS OF CENTAURA): Aquila is overrun by Antares forces.
    • 1914 - The Kingdom of Vega prepares to defend against the Antareans. The fortifications along the Murus Plateau are believed to be a difficult barrier to break through.
    • 1915 - CENTAURAN WAR: Vega is overrun by Antares forces. A weak point in the eastern coastal region posed no defensive barriers against the invaders.
    • 1915 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antares attacks Grusa from the south.
    • 1915 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antares begins a campaign against Columba and attacks from rally points stationed in Cetus, Aquila, and Vega.
    • 1916 - Small protests occur throughout Orion and Hydrus, urging each government to take action on the Centauran War. Their petitions are ignored.
    • 1916 - Ursa begins to reconstruct their military after losses during the Grease Wars.
    • 1917 - CENTAURAN WAR: Grusa successfully holds off the Antareans in the arid deserts.
    • 1917 - Libratum has a surge of refugees incoming from Centaura. The LIZ Guardsmen redirect them toward the Orion ports.
    • 1917 - CENTAURAN WAR: Corvus attempts to attack Columba from the west but is cut off by Riaan border troops.
    • 1918 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antares changes their strategy and instead invades Grusa via the coastline, using the navy to bombard targets on the shore.
    • 1919 - CENTAURAN WAR: Grusa is overrun by Antares forces.
    • 1920 - CENTAURAN WAR: Centauri coastal guns open fire on the northern Grusan shoreline. Several Antarean outposts situated on the shore are demolished by heavy shelling.
    • 1920 - Pro-war protests begin gaining traction in the Orion Republic. At the same time, anti-war groups unite to counter the pro-war advocates. The main argument of the pro-war group is that the Antareans, if not stopped, will fight Orion once their conquest of Centaura is completed. Joining the war would prevent this future war from occurring. On the other hand, the anti-war group argued that joining the war against Antares would be pointless and that it would be immoral to send Orion soldiers to die in a pointless war, not to mention the economic consequences of engaging in a conflict.
    • 1921 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antares generals hold off on the invasion of Centauri, as their coastal defenses are too strong to break through. The war effort is redirected into taking Columba, where slow progress has been made in trying to take the mountains.
    • 1921 - The first commercial radio is produced in Hydrus. Testing broadcasts occur throughout the year as radio models are refined.
    • 1922 - A miracle occurs in Auriga during the spring; crop production is boosted, creating extremely excessive food (fruits and vegetables) supplies. Orion imports 70% of the surplus, Hydrus 20%, and the remaining 10% is shipped across the Libran Ocean to the Centauran continent. Some Aurigan merchant ships never return after arriving at Antares' territories. They are falsely declared missing at sea by Aurigan officials.
    • 1923 - CENTAURAN WAR: The Columban campaign takes a heavy toll on the Antares army. The Columbans have used the mountainous environment to their advantage, placing machine gun bunkers in unexpected places and creating easy ambush spots along main trails.
    • 1924 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antares high command orders the mass production of medium bombers.
    • 1925 - Riaa decides to officially support Columba with manpower.
    • 1926 - CENTAURAN WAR: Further attempts by Antares to penetrate the Columban mountains fail.
    • 1926 - In Orion and Hydrus, support for the anti-war movement grows as citizens hear the news of Antares’ struggle against Columba. Many are doubtful the Antareans could get through the mountains, so joining the war would not be necessary.
    • 1926 - Thomas Wallace wins the Orion presidential election.
    • 1927 - Emperor Kalvin Tau dies of old age. Aran Tau inherits the Antares throne.
    • 1927 - President Wallace attempts to negotiate with Emperor Aran through telephone, but the emperor is reluctant to end his father’s war.
    • 1927 - The Northern Centauran Alliance is established between Riaa, Columba, Tucana, and Centauri to repel the Antares invasion.
    • 1927 - Antares civilians begin migrating to occupied/annexed towns in southern Cetus and southern Aquila. The northern parts of these countries are off-limits as military operations against Columba take place.
    • 1928 - More refugees enter Orion via boats and airlines. The small immigration department of Orion is overloaded with refugees, as mass immigrations had never happened in the country. Subsequently, President Wallace orders shelters to be given to incoming refugees.
    • 1929 - Telephone and telegraph cables connecting Orion to Antares are cut by the latter.
    • 1929 - President Wallace and Hydrus representatives request for an international summit on Libratum. The Librans accept and send out telegrams to all countries of a summit to be held in the next year.
    • 1930 - FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: Government representatives from most countries appear at Libratum. The nations not present are the ones currently at war with Antares. Ironically, Antares is the only Centauran country to attend the conference. The Hydran continent representatives press the Antareans with statements pertaining to a provocation of war or an end to commerce trading. In response, an Antares representative shares an anecdote about the relationships between humans and power. They shame the Orionites for condemning the Antarean conquest, as Orion themselves had done an imperial expansion over the past several centuries. The Antareans argued: If the Orionites could do it, why couldn’t Antares? They claimed the same concept applies to Ursa, who subjected Hydrus with similar aggression. These countries were not denounced as the Antareans were, so why was it a problem for Antares to continue their conquest? Orion then inquired about the reason for their expansion, but Antares declined to answer. The Hydran continent countries (Hydrus, Orion, and Auriga) announce a suspension of commerce trading with Antares, and the conference was adjourned thereafter.
    • 1930 - The Hydran continent halts trade between themselves and Antares, and the Centauran War continues.
    • 1930 - Thomas Wallace is re-elected for the Orion presidency.
    • 1931 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antarean forces are able to break through the eastern coasts of Columba bordering occupied Grusa. At the same time, Antares ramps up their forces on the Corvus-Riaa border and attacks from the west.
    • 1932 - Ursa begins modernization of their navy.
    • 1932 - CENTAURAN WAR: Columban forces in the mountains are cut off from the north and are completely surrounded. Antares continues their attack towards north Columba, ignoring the remaining hostiles in the mountains.
    • 1933 - CENTAURAN WAR: The Columban capital is sieged and taken in a matter of weeks.
    • 1933 - CENTAURAN WAR: Columba is overrun by Antares forces. Remaining Columban holdouts in the mountains are cleared as the war progresses.
    • 1934 - The world is shocked by the fall of Columba. Pro-war sentiment in Orion begins to return, with the threat of Antares more obvious than ever before.
    • 1934 - Thomas Wallace’s popularity declines due to a lack of action against the Centauran War. He loses the Orion election to Ferdinand Powell.
    • 1934 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antares forces decide to ignore Centauri because their coastal fortifications are too strong; there would be a considerable loss of life for the Antareans if they committed to an amphibious landing. Instead, Antares starts their siege of Riaa.
    • 1935 - As a result of the growing worry of the Antarean aggression, President Powell passes the Military Defense Act (1935), increasing government spending on the Orion military and creating more job opportunities within the armed forces. Powell’s plan was to assure the people that a strong military would protect them from any invasion by a foreign country.
    • 1936 - Hydrus modernizes their navy and commissions several new capital ships of the battleship class.
    • 1936 - CENTAURAN WAR: Fighting in Riaa becomes bloody as the Riaans resort to human-wave attacks against the Antareans. These attacks are mostly unsuccessful since charges are easily defeated by automatic machine gun fire. With a very large number of soldiers but a lack of reliable weaponry and food, the Riaan morale drops.
    • 1936 - Orion, Hydrus, and Auriga completely cut off trade with the Centauran countries, worrying that their shipping may be captured by the Antares navy.
    • 1937 - CENTAURAN WAR: The Antarean navy commences an amphibious landing on the eastern coasts of Tucana, avoiding the Centauri coastal defenses to the south.
    • 1938 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antares makes more progress into southern Riaa while also piercing into the heart of Tucana. Centauri land fortifications attempt to cross-fire into Tucanese territory as the Antareans march.
    • 1939 - Commercial flights carrying refugees begin to land unauthorized at Orion, Hydrus, and Ursa airports.
    • 1939 - CENTAURAN WAR: Tucana is overrun by Ursan forces.
    • 1939 - CENTAURAN WAR: Riaa is almost conquered, with the last defending forces retreating to the snowy north.
    • 1939 - Centaurian civilians fear for their life as their country is the only one left untouched by the Antares invasion. A panic ensues, and some civilians attempt to flee the continent by passenger liners. As these liners depart, they are captured or sunk by the Antares navy.
    • 1940 - CENTAURAN WAR: Riaa makes a last stand with their immense manpower, resorting to suicide attacks to hinder the inevitable Antares victory.
    • 1940 - CENTAURAN WAR: Riaa is overrun by Antares forces.
    • 1940 - Ursa completes their naval rearmament.
    • 1940 - Centauri ports are closed for the safety of the civilians; passenger ships are no longer a safe means of escape. The last commercial airlines depart from Centauri airports, with those left behind anxiously awaiting their doom.
    • 1941 - CENTAURAN WAR: Antares forces, both army and navy, begin rallying around the borders of Centauri while staying out of range of Centaurian fortifications.
    • 1941 - Suicide rates in Centauri skyrocket as civilians and politicians refuse to accept their fate.
    • 1942 - CENTAURAN WAR: The siege of Centauri begins. A 14-day bombardment by the Antares navy demolishes the southern coastal defenses. Artillery amassed in the north also break through the Centauri bunkers and fortifications.
    • 1943 - CENTAURAN WAR: The Centaurian army fights to the death to protect their civilians.
    • 1943 - President Powell, still adamant about intervening in the war, passes the Littoral Defense Act (1943), strengthening the Orion navy and constructing tower fortifications near the western coastlines in case of an Antarean invasion.
    • 1944 - CENTAURAN WAR: Centauri is overrun by Antares forces.
    • 1944 - END OF THE CENTAURAN WAR (PLANNED END OF EVENTS OF CENTAURA): After 33 years, the continent of Centaura is under the control of Antares. Vulpa, situated off the coast of Riaa, is spared an invasion, but their population soon experiences a famine due to no supplies being shipped from the mainland.
    • 1945 - Antares makes the first contact with Ursa since the fall of Riaa. They offer an alliance with Ursa, stating that Antares will help Ursa regain their lands in Canis (taken by Hydrus in 1905). Ursa accepts the offer.
    • 1945-1947 - A period of peaceful unease occurs during the next two years. Hydrus modernizes their military forces and improves their arsenal. Orion’s economy continues to grow with rapid urban industrialization. Antares exploits their territories’ natural resources and constructs coastal fortifications along the eastern coast, anticipating a war with Orion in the near future. They also ramp up naval development as the nations likely to go to war with Antares – Libra, Orion, and Hydrus – are across the ocean. Rebellions and uprisings occur throughout the occupied Antares territories but to no avail. Skorpii Riaa is established, consolidating Antares’ northern territories into a singular entity.
    • 1947 - SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: With agreement from all nations, a second international meeting takes place in Libratum. The Hydran continent condemns the actions of the Antareans. After an hour of quarreling between the two sides, a recess is announced. The meeting is to continue after 30 minutes, and the conference moderators request that each side proposes a fix to the current issue.
      • LIBRATUM INCIDENT: During the break, four Antarean representatives and one Orionite representative are found dead in a room. Upon investigation, the Orionite appears to have shot the victims, then shot himself. The fifth and last Antarean representative flees back to his country, and so do the Hydran continent representatives. The LIZ Guardsmen are distressed, knowing a war will ensue because of the incident.
    • 1948 - Three months after the conference incident, an Antarean light aircraft carrier battle group ships out across the Libran Ocean - January.
    • 1948-1961 - EVENTS OF FORMAN WAR (Dead Ahead events)
    • 1961-XXXX - Aftermath of The Forman War
    • 1961 - The Leges Vitae, or “laws of life” in Latin, was the first set of international war rules established. They were conceived by both Orionite and Libran delegates in 1961, and it would take two years for the laws to be set across all countries.
    • 1974 - On July 20, 1974, Capella was dropped on Alchiba, instantly destroying the city. The explosion's shockwave lightly damaged a few Corvun towns in the surrounding area, and it was heard as far as Ravo, the capital of Corvus. The river near Alchiba became irradiated, further affecting cities and towns downstream.

Conflicts[]

War of the Grusan Succession[]

The empire would continue on until the emergence of a chism amongst the nobility. In 1655, the death of the grusan king without an apparent heir cause a frenzy in the empire. Although a successor was declared, many in the south soon call for the reign of the House of Verde, a cadet branch of the House Flamenco.

Soon, an all-out war would break out, with the vegans holding firm of the southern parts of the plateau. The war would expand in scale, with numerous other nations partaking in the conflict. After 30 years of grueling conflict, both sides signed a peace deal. The war would see Grusa's imperial holdings reduced to just Tucana and Centauri. Grusa's domination would end following the war.

Collapse[]

The Kingdoms of Grusa and Vega were not always separate nations, but a succession crisis in the 1600s led to 2 princes and their followers splitting the kingdom into the borders Grusa and Vega shared until their subjugation. The 2 rivaling bloodlines would force the nations into an aggressive state for centuries over petty differences. Sentiment for unification has long existed amongst the populace due to their shared culture and language, but the monarchies have never indicated any interest in friendly relations.

Triplum War[]

The Triplum War (Old Librae: Bella Triplum; lit. "The Triple Wars") is a series of conflicts fought by Aquila, Vega and Antares.

After a brief scuffle between the two, Cetus opted to sign the Persean Treaty, establishing a recognized border between the two kingdoms. Antares and Grusa, however, had different ideas. The 3 nations would wage wars over each other's territories for the next few centuries. In the late 1700s, Aquila won a decisive victory over Vega (who had split from Grusa) and Antares, gaining territory up to the Murus Plateau, and capturing a portion of Antarean land that gave Aquila access to the Libran Ocean.

Aquila would stop its expansion at that point, and instead focus on building its own market now that it had access to sea trade. Vega would never attempt an incursion into Aquilan territory again, and neither did Antares as it had taken too many losses. In the late 1800s, Aquila underwent a mostly peaceful revolution, taking away political power from the monarchy and giving it to the people.

It is hinted that at some point there is a battle that took place in Talona.

The Strait War[]

Battle of Cabo Vesca[]

Centauri would win the battle, ending the Strait War.

Background[]

Before action Cabo Vesca

War would broke out between both Centauri and Grusa in 1864 over the strait. In the course of the war, a stalemate occurs as not much progress could be made. By the 1860s, naval shipbuilding would advance towards the creation of iron-hulled steamships. By the time of the battle, both nations possess a large force of modern steam warships.

A Grusan Fleet would be formed along the strait before sailing towards the western island along the coast of Cabo Vesca. Centauri warships amassing would be sent to intervene. By the time of arrival in Cabo Vesca, the Centauri successfully intercepted the Grusans to confront them, engaging them at dawn.

1875 Antarean-Aquilan War[]

Antares, believing democracy had weakened Aquila, launched an offensive to retake land they had lost centuries ago. The invasion ended in a resounding Antarean loss, giving Aquila's military the moniker of an "Iron Army."

The future emperor of Antares, Kalvin Tau, fought in the war.

1886 Southern Corvus War[]

The 1886 war is a decisive military conflict conducted by the Empire of Cetus to annex the mineral rich area of southern Corvus.

Cetus had began their maritime ambitions and required materials to build their ships. South Corvus held a great amount of iron and coal, and the Cetans saw that the Corvuns underutilized the iron supply. Since trading also proved too costly for the Cetans, they decided to invade and annex South Corvus in 1886.

Through the element of surprise, the Cetan army would defeat the Corvuns decisively, taking southern Corvus. The Corvuns would retreat to the north and organize a defense. Fearing a counterattack would drag the war on to a Corvun defeat, the Corvuns would consolidate their position, unbeknown to the bluff of the Cetan army which has fewer troops.

Aftermath[]

The removal of South Corvus from Corvun control impacted the cities almost immediately. Power plants began running out of coal, and with nearly all urban centers relying on coal plants for electricity, there was too much demand and little to no supply.

Half of the country’s coal reserves were in South Corvus, which had just been stolen by the Cetans. The transportation industry was severely impacted, as trains no longer had the means to keep their engines running. To make matters worse, the food sources from the South Corvus farmlands were cut off.

Only a few mines in the north were able to keep producing coal, but the amount being mined was unable to keep up with the consumption rate of the cities. Within a month, the Corvun power grid failed, and all cities underwent a blackout.

The Corvun government was in panic. For the first few hours, not a single city in Corvus had access to electricity. Telegraphs were also disabled as a result, and the Corvun government was unable to communicate with the public. A decision was made to send messengers on horseback to each city in order to notify the Corvun population of the next steps.

Electricity was no longer available, and citizens now had to use candles or old outdated gas-powered lamps for lighting. Power appliances were non-functional, and the government was not sure how long the outage would last.

It lasted decades.

For the first week, citizens were unable to live life normally. Since the trains were inoperable and could not bring food en mass to the cities, the price of food began to rise.

Within a year, bread and raw vegetables were the only food items on the market. Restaurants had closed down, as did most businesses.

As prices continued increasing, so did the crime rate. Corvuns desperate for money and food began resorting to violence to get what they needed. Food storages were broken into and robbed, and even random people on the streets were mugged. Food became almost as valuable as money, if not more valuable. The breakdown of civilization led to the deployment of the Corvun Army into the cities, where they would act as law enforcement in lieu of the police department. However, the soldiers, too, felt the impact of poverty.

By 1900, Corvun city streets were the most dangerous places in the country. Murders and rapes were a common everyday occurrence among the civilian population, and the Corvun Army itself saw a decline in its ability to enforce the law.

Civilians began forming themselves into different “families”, similar to street gangs. Each family’s goal was to provide for their own people as best as possible, and each had a small territory in their city. Melee skirmishes often broke out in the streets when one family encountered another.

Those who were not aligned with a family were constantly attacked and robbed, sometimes just outright killed for nothing.

In order to survive well in Corvun cities, one had to be very aware of their surroundings. There was also one unspoken rule that almost every city dweller followed: stay out of the open. Nobody wanted to attract attention to themselves, so the best way to move around the city was to avoid the main roads and take lesser-known streets and alleyways. With many citizens following these rules to survive on a daily basis, government officials began to wonder if these were good qualities for a soldier.

The social instability of the urban centers did not seem to be a bad thing for the government. In 1905, the Corvun government realized they could potentially use the anger and frustration of the citizens to enlist them into the Army in an effort to retake South Corvus. Additionally, their survival instincts from the cities could also help them live through a firefight. In just 3 years, the number of personnel in the military quadrupled. Propaganda was instilled into the soldiers, and they all agreed that the Cetans were to blame for their hardships. Thus, they would show no mercy to the enemy.

Riaan Civil War[]

In 1888 Nationalist parties revolted against the Imperialist government. The Nationalists quickly gain support from the Tucanese, who help push out Imperialist forces.

By 1892, the Nationalists successfully take most of Riaa, apart from the western territories. The Imperialists begin to flee towards the Vulpan islands.

The Nationalists would gain complete control of Riaa in 1895. The country of Vulpa is established by the Imperialists.
