Grusa, officially the Kingdom of Grusa (Grusi: Reino de Grusa) is a nation in Centaura.
History
Grusa is a nation located in the Centauran continent. It borders Vega to the southwest, and Columba to the west. Grusa also shares maritime borders with the nation of Centauri with the Sagittarius Strait. The majority of the land is a barren desert, the Grusan people relies mostly on trade and the seafood industry. Savannas exist in the country with some fertile ground, however they are located near the Vega-Grusa border in the southwest and subsequently the Murus Plateau. The said Murus Plateau serves as a natural border between Grusa and Vega.
Grusans speak Grusi, the in-universe version of (Mexican) Spanish. Grusan was derived from Librae (which comes from Old Librae), and thus is a romance language alongside Vego and Aurigan. Vego derives from Grusi, and is thus extremely similar but still different in some regards.
The Vegan and Grusan governments were in an aggressive state with each other since the 1600s but never engaged in open conflict.
Soon after the fall of its rival, Vega, in 1915, Grusa was also invaded by the Antareans from the south in the same year. However, unlike their fallen rivals, Grusa managed to stave off the Antareans in the southern arid deserts for three years, having stopped them in 1917. In the following year, the Antareans changed strategy and instead invades Grusa via the coastline, using the navy to bombard targets on the shore. Ironically, like their rival, they were overrun due to the coasts in 1919.

The Kingdoms of Grusa and Vega were not always separate nations, but a succession crisis in the 1600s led to 2 princes and their followers splitting the kingdom into the borders Grusa and Vega shared until their subjugation. The 2 rivaling bloodlines would force the nations into an aggressive state for centuries over petty differences. Sentiment for unification has long existed amongst the populace due to their shared culture and language, but the monarchies have never indicated any interest in friendly relations.
Military
The Centimado
Centimado, short for *Centinela Armado* (armed sentry), is a soldier responsible for guarding city gates, government buildings and state officials. Historically, it applied to various formations before they were merged into a single organization under the House of Flamenco, the ruling family of the Kingdom of Grusa. By the time of their formation, policing duties had been largely taken up by local groups known as the *Fraternidad*, a loose confederation of towns and villages that fought against bandits known as the *buitres*.
In 185, King Alano Flamenco III sought to centralize his authority over Grusa and established a national police force; the *Guardia Pública Armada* (Armed Public Guard) and banned the corrupt and unreliable Fraternidad. Unlike the volunteer nature of the Centimado, the Guardia were raised through levies similarly to the Royal army which made the overall quality of officers mixed. House Flamenco would continue to entrust the Centimado with certain responsibilities, preferring their professionalism and experience to handle investigations and high-profile cases. When the Grusan Empire reached its height, the Centimado had employed nearly a hundred spies under their organization.
Throughout their service, the Centimado would foster a poor reputation within colonial Centauri and Tucana, colloquially known as the *Nortes*, being used to suppress its unruly population. The situation would deteriorate when King Edjardo ascended the throne in 985 and began openly prosecuting the Nortes locals. His attitude against the *pieles pálidas* (pale skins) was fueled by the death of his father, Agustin, that was blamed on his non-Grusan servants. Over Edjaro's tenure, the Centimado's jurisdiction and presence in the Nortes would increase before effectively replacing the locally recruited Guardia in law enforcement and even administration.
