List of named characters in Centaura.
Characters
Archer is a character for Antares. He was the head of Antarean operations in Columba as well as the leader of Antarean operations in the Aquilan theatre. As the commander of the Aquilan campaign, he was criticized for his overly aggressive tactics and bullheaded warfare style.
In the Columban theatre, Archer was responsible for the lack of Antarean progress and stagnation in the campaign, adamant in simply pushing through the southern mountains rather than the eastern coast, fearing that the Columban Navy in the nearby Annulus Sea would deal heavy damage to Antarean units near the coast.
His fruitless attempts to cross the southern mountains doomed his career; when Kalvin died and was replaced by Aran, he relieved Archer of his post and gave it to the newly-promoted General Cervantes, who would begin Operation Katakalysm.
Cervantes is an Antarean military commander and governor, responsible for stunning Antarean victories in Columba and helping to orchestrate the campaign of Northern Centaura, the largest military operation ever in Forman history. He later became the de-facto ruler of Skorpii Riaa, making him one of the most powerful Antarean leaders.
Lore
It is unknown what Cervantes did prior to the Columban theatre, though it is evident he had been serving for a while given his high rank of Kolonel. He was possibly serving in the role of a general staff officer. He is described as "a rather young officer for his age".
As a young Kolonel, he devised Operation Kataklysm, a long-term war plan in Columba that was based around distracting Columban troops near the southern mountains while having the Antareans encircle said Columban troops by pushing through the eastern coasts, with the Corvuns pushing from the west. Such an idea was dismissed by Archer and the Antarean high command, believing it to be too risky.
When Aran Tau came to power and removed Archer from his position, Aran appointed the newly-promoted General Cervantes as the new head of Antarean operations in Columba. In this position, he would ultimately commit Operation Kataklysm.
When in 1930, the NCA (a coalition between Riaa, Columba, Centauri and Tucana) was formed, moving to defeat the Antarean advance, Cervantes initiated the operation as the NCA moved to the southern mountains. Though the fighting continued on excruciatingly for 3 years, the plan was a major success, as the NCA troops in Columba were cut off their supply and reinforcement lines, becoming trapped in the mountains and surrounded by enemy forces. As the Corvuns and Antareans moved north, later taking the Columban capital Mundare, the remaining NCA units in the mountains would be slowly taken care of later on. This was a major defeat for the NCA, and it would allow Cervantes and his friend Reyes to began planning for the siege of Riaa.
The siege of Riaa and push northwards would be extremely brutal, consisting of slow and stagnant combat in the air and land with armored vehicles as well. While digging in for the winter of 1934, unbeknownst to the Antareans, the NCA would begin a counteroffensive in the upcoming spring. This counterattack was devastating and sent the Antareans back to the Columban mountains, almost obliterating their army, though the NCA would also suffer heavy casualties and throw lots of men in what was essentially a meatgrinder.
After Ursa invaded Tucana and the NCA was slowly pushed back, defeating Riaa, Tucana, and Centauri in that order, the new puppet state Skorpii Riaa would be formed to manage the vast territories of northern Centaura. Cervantes was appointed to oversee Skorpii Riaa, effectively becoming its de-facto ruler and by now among the most powerful in Antares Imperium.
Trivia
- Cervantes can be translated to "servants" (or "the servant [of a lord]") or "ladies' men" in Spanish.
- Cervantes is similar to how many Red Army generals progress through the ranks in WW2. Starting off as ordinary divisional commanders, their skills played a huge role in the defence of the Soviet Union, and they were awarded heavily.
- In particular, Ivan Konev was responsible for leading defensive actions against Axis troops in the Eastern Front, as well as counteroffensives that resulted in steady Axis defeats and Soviet gains, similar to how Cervantes broke the stalemate in the Columban mountains and began Operation Katakalysm, a counteroffensive that would tip the favor back to Antares.
- Both Georgy Zhukov and Konev also became military commanders in occupied military zones, with Zhukov overseeing the German occupation zone and Konev overseeing Soviet troops in Austria, later replacing Zhukov's role when he fell out of Stalin's favor due to his paranoia over Zhukov's success and popularity.
- According to HandsNDeck (Lore Writer), he is shorter than Leo Arden.
Grusii is the connotation given to Grusa and Vega.
Frederick Scapha is the King of Cetus during the events of the Southern Corvus War.
Despite Cetus declaring itself an 'empire', Frederick is crowned king, not emperor.
Lore
Despite being the King and ruler of the Empire of Cetus, he had very little power due to decades of interservice rivalry and insubordination from both branches of the Cetan military. This ends up being crucial for the Cetan defeat in the Southern Corvus War, as the lack of communication and respect between the Navy and Army causes multiple strategic mistakes and them not being able to support each other well.
After Cetus' defeat, it is unknown what happened to Scapha, though it is likely he is kept imprisoned or under house arrest by the Antareans.
Trivia
- Scapha is similar to the Latin word for a light boat/skiff. Though this means nothing at first, when noting the fact that Scapha is the powerless leader of a naval-based fishing nation, he is symbolically a "light boat".
Michael Forrest is a character from Cetus. He is seen in Blackton cradling the corpse of his dead wife, Hannah Forrest.
Lore
Michael Forrest is a Cetan naval veteran, serving aboard the Kaitos-class battleship, the CIS Kaitos, between 1900 and 1904. Shortly after his honorable discharge from the navy, Michael settled down in Blackton with his wife, Hannah Forrest. Together, they set up a veteran's supported saloon within the community, quickly attracting customers and coal miners on a regular basis.
When the Corvuns promptly invaded Blackton in 1908, Michael and Hannah found themselves caught in the pre-emptive mortar strikes on the town. Unfortunately, Hannah would die just moments before the ground invasion began. Michael's fate would be left unknown after the events of Blackton following the loss of his wife Hannah.
Trivia
- Michael Forrest and his wife is first seen in the original version of Blackton, though both were unnamed and did not have a backstory.
- In Blackton, if you enter the saloon, there are three framed pictures; a photo of Michael and Hannah together in Blackton, a photo of Michael aboard the CIS Kaitos during its 10th anniversary celebration, and a photo of his brother aboard the CIS Daphne.
