Artillery can cause dismemberment, as shown in this picture.
Artillery is a game mechanic in Centaura.
Description[]

Aquilan Howitzer
On several maps, artillery barrages will periodically fall on the frontlines, decimating anyone unfortunate enough to be caught in the barrage's radius. These shells are enormously powerful on their own and each barrage contains over a dozen shells falling in a wide pattern. Being killed by an artillery shell always results in dismemberment, while standing near an explosion can result in temporary or permanent hearing damage.
Before an artillery barrage begins, the sound of the batteries firing will be audible in the background, and all players nearby will begin shouting and calling out warnings, giving everyone crucial seconds to prepare. The best way to avoid being killed by artillery is to run away from its targeted area. If that is not possible, hiding under a structure is the next best way to ensure survival. Open-topped cover such as trenches offer poor protection from artillery, but if one is caught out in the open during an artillery barrage, watching the incoming shells and moving away from them as they land might allow survival.
Artillery is powerful enough to destroy Armored Cars and Tanks, making it an effective counter to them. However, it is highly inconsistent and should not be relied on to destroy vehicles; Dynamites and Tripwire Bombs are more consistent and effective methods.

Trivia[]
- The killfeed name for artillery is usually 'Artillery'. However, certain maps have vehicles or structures in the background providing artillery support, such as the CIS Mira at Coastal Battery Q and the CIS Naiad at Whitemouth Estuary. The killfeed name is changed on these maps to reflect this.
- Artillery shells used to not be visible, rather, only the explosion would be visible to players.
